The difference between copper clad laminate and PCB

There is a difference in material and structure between CCL and PCB: CCL is mainly made of fiberglass and copper foil, while PCB consists of multiplesmd assembly layers of CCL with special insulation between these CLP sheets (FR-4 is common, but other materials are also available). These insulating layers not only act as electrical isolation but also provide mechanical support and protection for electronic components. In addition, the circuit pattern on the PCB has been rigorously optimized to improve the layout and signal transmission of electronic components.

In terms of performance and application, there are also some differences between CCL and PCB. Due to its simpler structure, CCL is more suitable for some simple electronic devices, such as household appliances. PCB, on the other hand, is suitable for more complex electronic devices, such as mobile phones, computers, and communication equipment, due to its more complex structure. In addition, multilayer PCBs are more resistant to electromagnetic interference and noise, so they are widely used in high-frequency electronics.

To sum up, while both CCL and PCB are important components in electronics manufacturing, there are some key differences between them. Copper-clad laminates are composite materials made of fiberglass and copper foil that are used to provide electrical connections and mechanical support. On the other hand, a PCB is an electronic component support body with a circuit pattern printed on a copper-clad laminate that conducts electricity and connects electronic components. They differ in structure, materials, as well as properties and applications, and therefore play different roles in the manufacturing of electronic devices.
